Background: Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is a major concern in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). The American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (ACC/AHA) and the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) have different guidelines for SCD risk stratification. Their comparative performance in diverse populations remains uncertain.

Article Synopsis
  • Amyloidosis is a disease where misfolded proteins accumulate in tissues, often causing cardiac issues like stiffness and heart failure, particularly in transthyretin amyloidosis.
  • A study involving 60 patients, including those with cardiac ATTR amyloidosis, measured right ventricular (RV) stiffness using shear wave elastography (SWE) and assessed correlations with various health metrics.
  • The findings suggest that SWE is an effective, noninvasive method for evaluating RV stiffness, with an SWE threshold of ≥ 4.6 kPa indicating potential cardiac involvement, thus aiding in diagnosis and treatment.

While national Lebanese studies done on breast cancer attest to the importance of awareness campaigns none, however, examine the type of content that most effectively reaches women. The purpose of this study, therefore, was to examine, through an experiment, the effectiveness of direct versus indirect messaging, in altering knowledge, risk perception, attitudes, behaviors and self-efficacy among two groups of women, those aged 18-40 and 41-65 years. Findings suggest that the designed breast cancer communication messages were perceived as informative, trustworthy and believable regardless of message type.

Background: Sudden cardiac death (SCD) resulting from ventricular arrhythmia is the main complication of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Microvolt T-wave alternans (MTWA) is associated with the occurrence of ventricular arrhythmias in several heart diseases, but its role in HCM remains uncertain.

Objective: To evaluate the association of MTWA with the occurrence of SCD or potentially fatal ventricular arrhythmias in HCM patients in a long-term follow-up.
