Influence of grinding on the nutritive value of peas for ruminants: comparison between in vitro and in situ approaches.

In ruminant nutrition, peas are characterized by high protein solubility and degradability, which impair its protein value estimated by the official in situ method. Grinding can be used as a technological treatment of pea seeds to modify their nutritional value. The aim of this study was to compare the in situ method with an in vitro method on the same pea either in a coarse pea flour form (PCF) or in a ground pea fine flour form (PFF) to understand the effect of grinding.

Do kidney histology lesions predict long-term kidney function after liver transplantation?

Histological renal lesions observed after liver transplantation are complex, multifactorial, and interrelated. The aims of this study were to determine whether kidney lesions observed at five yr after liver transplantation can predict long-term kidney function. Ninety-nine liver transplant patients receiving calcineurin inhibitor (CNI)-based immunosuppression, who had undergone a kidney biopsy at 60±48 months post-transplant, were included in this follow-up study.

Diffuse uremic tumoral calcinosis in a patient on long-term hemodialysis.

Tumoral calcinosis is an uncommon and severe complication of hemodialysis therapy. The most important pathogenic factor involved in uremic tumoral calcinosis is an increase in calcium-phosphorus product, not necessarily related to hyperparathyroidism. We report here a patient on hemodialysis who presented with increasing multifocal and uncommon sites of massive calcifications.
