Microalgae technology is highly attractive in the realm of wastewater treatment and CO removal. However, during the cultivation of microalgae, the phenomenon of light attenuation intensifies with the increasing cell concentration, resulting in a decrement in microalgal growth rate. To maintain high light transmittance and growth rate of microalgae, this study introduces a two-step pre-harvesting process involving flocculation and filtration within an airlift photobioreactor.

Cutaneous melanoma is one of the most aggressive skin cancers originating from skin pigment cells. Patients with advanced melanoma suffer a poor prognosis and generally cannot benefit well from surgical resection and chemo/target therapy due to metastasis and drug resistance. Thus, adoptive cell therapy (ACT), employing immune cells with specific tumor-recognizing receptors, has emerged as a promising therapeutic approach to display on-tumor toxicity.

Aim: The primary objective of this study is to investigate the impact of tumor necrosis factor-like weak inducer of apoptosis (TWEAK) and its functional receptor, fibroblast growth factor-inducible 14 (Fn14), on the process of vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) senescence.

Methods: Rat arterial VSMCs were cultured with angiotensin II to establish a model of premature senescence. The effects of TWEAK and Fn14 on senescent VSMCs were evaluated.
