What Do We Know About Nurse Practitioner/Physician Care Models in Long-Term Care: Results of a Scoping Review.

Objectives: Due to the rise of the nurse practitioner (NP) role in long-term care settings, it is important to understand the underlying structures and processes that influence NP and physician care models. This scoping review aims to answer the question, "What are the structures, processes, and outcomes of care models involving NPs and physicians in long-term care (LTC) homes?" A secondary aim was to describe the structural enablers and barriers across care models.

Research Design And Methods: Seven databases were searched.

Energy expenditure estimation during activities of daily living in middle-aged and older adults using an accelerometer integrated into a hearing aid.

Background: Accelerometers were traditionally worn on the hip to estimate energy expenditure (EE) during physical activity but are increasingly replaced by products worn on the wrist to enhance wear compliance, despite potential compromises in EE estimation accuracy. In the older population, where the prevalence of hearing loss is higher, a new, integrated option may arise. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the accuracy and precision of EE estimates using an accelerometer integrated into a hearing aid and compare its performance with sensors simultaneously worn on the wrist and hip.

An evolutionary continuum from nucleated dwarf galaxies to star clusters.

Systematic studies have revealed hundreds of ultra-compact dwarf galaxies (UCDs) in the nearby Universe. With half-light radii r of approximately 10-100 parsecs and stellar masses M≈ 10-10solar masses, UCDs are among the densest known stellar systems. Although similar in appearance to massive globular clusters, the detection of extended stellar envelopes, complex star formation histories, elevated mass-to-light ratio and supermassive black holes suggest that some UCDs are remnant nuclear star clusters of tidally stripped dwarf galaxies, or even ancient compact galaxies.

Understanding and controlling microbial adhesion is a critical challenge in biomedical research, given the profound impact of bacterial infections on global health. Many facets of bacterial adhesion, including the distribution of adhesion forces across the cell wall, remain poorly understood. While a recent 'patchy colloid' model has shed light on adhesion in Gram-negative cells, a corresponding model for Gram-positive cells has been elusive.
