Mucins 5AC (MUC5AC) and 5B (MUC5B) are the major mucins providing the organizing framework for the airway's mucus gel. We retrieved bronchial mucosal biopsies and bronchial wash (BW) samples through bronchoscopy from patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease ( = 38), healthy never-smokers ( = 40), and smokers with normal lung function ( = 40). The expression of MUC5AC and MUC5B was assessed immunohistochemically.

Macrocyclic rings tend to offer a greater degree of rigidity than non-cyclised small molecules, and, as a result they are perfect platforms to instil conformational controls. In this study, the difluoroalkoxyphenyl moiety is examined as a tool to alter the conformation of macrocycles.

Background: Several studies using positron emission tomography (PET) show highly elevated periprosthetic bone uptake of fluorine-18 sodium fluoride (18F-fluoride), suggestive of implant loosening after arthroplasty. Focus so far has been on qualitative but not on quantitative assessment. There is also a lack of intraoperative confirmation of preoperative 18F-fluoride PET findings.

To investigate shared and unique features for RSP and PRISm. In the Swedish CArdioPulmonary bioImage Study (SCAPIS), a general population sample of 28,555 people aged 50-64 years (including 14,558 never-smokers) was assessed.
