Venous thromboembolism in Spain. Comparison between an administrative database and the RIETE registry.

Background: The aim of this study was to validate the baseline characteristics of the RIETE cohort against the much larger national Spanish population-based database.

Methods: The RIETE is an ongoing registry of consecutive patients with symptomatic, objectively confirmed, acute venous thromboembolism (VTE). We compared some baseline characteristics and death rates in the administrative database from the Spanish Ministry of Health (CMBD, Conjunto Mínimo Básico de Datos) with those in the RIETE registry.

[The Strategic Plan for the development of Internal Medicine in Andalusia].

The Strategic Plan for the Development of Internal Medicine in Andalusia arose from the need that the internal medicine doctors had to redefine the purpose and values of their specialty to cope with the numerous changes occurring in the health care area. The project was developed in three phases. First, the tendency of the health care system and current position of the specialty were analyzed.

Unusual translocations and other changes in acute leukemia.

We report three cases of ANLL and one case of ALL in which we found chromosome abnormalities not previously described. The first patient had a (9;11;16)(p22;q23;p13) translocation in the relapse after bone marrow transplantation. In the second case, a secondary leukemia following a Wilms' tumor, there was a single chromosome anomaly, an inversion of chromosome 13.

Peripheral T-cell lymphoma. A clinical, histologic, and immunologic study of five cases.

The authors describe five white patients with peripheral T-cell lymphoma. Four patients were older than 65 years. All cases presented with a short clinical course and advanced stage at the time of diagnosis.
