Active RNase glycoprotein from three pieces: The glycoprotein enzyme ribonuclease C, which contains a complex saccharide N-glycan, was synthesized by sequential native chemical ligation. An optimized ligation and isolation protocol allowed the efficient assembly and refolding of the 124 amino acid enzyme.

Seven in one blow: The efficient formation of mixed disulfides on the thiol-rich fusion protein A followed by subsequent intein cleavage gave the fragment B with all seven cysteines protected against oxidation. The native chemical ligation of B with synthetic glycopeptide thioesters provides glycoproteins.

Symptoms of sexual dysfunction in patients treated for major depressive disorder: a meta-analysis comparing selegiline transdermal system and placebo using a patient-rated scale.

Objective: Spontaneous reports of sexual side effects were infrequent during placebo-controlled clinical trials of selegiline transdermal system (STS). The objective of this study was to examine the impact of STS 6 mg/24 hours on various domains of sexual function in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD), using a patient-rated questionnaire.

Method: Data from 4 short-term (6 to 8 weeks), randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials of STS in patients with MDD (DSM-IV criteria) were included in the meta-analysis (STS, N = 389; placebo, N = 400).

Postpartum depression: a randomized trial of sertraline versus nortriptyline.

Symptom reduction and improvement in functioning in women with postpartum major depression treated with a tricyclic antidepressant versus a serotonin reuptake inhibitor were compared. The design was a double-blind, 8-week comparative trial of nortriptyline (NTP) versus sertraline (SERT) with a 16-week continuation phase. Women aged 18 to 45 years with postpartum major depression and a 17-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression score of 18 or more were eligible.

Prevention of postpartum depression: a pilot randomized clinical trial.

Objective: The authors attempted to reduce the rate of postpartum depression in high-risk women and to increase the time to recurrence.

Method: Nondepressed pregnant women with at least one past episode of postpartum major depression were recruited into a randomized clinical trial. Mothers were assigned randomly to a 17-week trial of sertraline or placebo immediately after birth and assessed for 20 sequential weeks with the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression.
