Transitioning medically complex infants home: lessons learned from quality improvement efforts.

Objective: Decrease: 1) time from tracheostomy or gastrostomy tube placement to discharge home, and 2) avoidable readmissions within 7 days post-discharge, for medically complex infants.

Study Design: Five neonatology units and representatives from Medicaid and Managed Care Organizations participated. Measures included length of stay (LOS) from surgery to discharge, readmissions, and time from surgery to identifying home nursing.

Children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN) are living longer than ever. These advances come with a price: Patients, families, communities, and systems must absorb the challenges of chronic caregiving, including protracted stress and poor mental health. In 2023, the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine convened thought-leaders for conversations about supporting the emotional well-being of CYSHCN and their families.

Prophylactic antibiotics and corticosteroid prescribing in palliative medicine: retrospective study.

Objectives: To investigate whether patients under the care of the community specialist palliative care team receiving steroids are at increased risk of infection.To identify other risk factors that predispose community palliative care patients to infection.

Methods: A retrospective chart review of all patients referred to a community specialist palliative care service.

Perinatal Naloxone Care Practices: Survey Results From Persons With OUD and Providers.

Objective: Little is known about naloxone care practices for peripartum persons from the patient or provider perspectives. The objective of this study was to survey peripartum persons and providers about naloxone-related practices.

Methods: Individuals who had an OUD diagnosis during a pregnancy and Ohio healthcare professionals who provide care for peripartum patients with OUD and/or infants with prenatal exposure to opioids were eligible for this study.
