Background: The treatment of small choroidal melanoma is controversial. Thermal laser-induced treatment is utilized by some centers but there is still sparse literature about the subject, mainly with short-term follow-up time. The efficacy of transpupillary thermotherapy (TTT) for the treatment of small choroidal melanomas was evaluated.

Depression and quality of life during treatment of ocular bulb removal in individuals with uveal melanoma.

The objective of this study is to asses the emotional repercussions in individuals with uveal melanoma referred for surgery, during the diagnosis and preoperative, post-surgery and late post-surgery phases. The clinical qualitative assessment used the Beck Depression Inventory and the Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey. Twenty patients were individually assessed, 13 men and 7 women, with an average age of 52.

A new device for ocular globe enucleation.

It is important to perfect the enucleation technique, especially in cases of intraocular malignancy, to obtain an adequate amount of tissue for histologic analysis and to cause a minimum amount of trauma to the remaining orbital structures. This study describes the use of a new device for ocular globe enucleation. The new instrument has been employed in 16 consecutive enucleation procedures with no complications.

[Late presentation of bilateral retinoblastoma: case report].
