Powder sintering is a low-energy, net-shape processing route for many new products in the additive manufacturing space. We advance the viewpoint that for future manufacturing, alloys should be designed from materials science principles to sinter quickly at lower temperatures and with controlled final microstructures. Specifically, we illustrate the computational design of multinary Ni-base alloys, whose chemistries permit a low-temperature solid-state sintering scheme without any pressure- or field-assistance, as well as heat-treatability after sintering.

Current consensus recommends hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) for patients with myelofibrosis with intermediate or high-risk disease and age of less than 70 years. However, a higher chronological age should not be prohibitive for the eligibility decision in general, acknowledging that current life expectancy for the general population aged 70 years is ∼15 years, and current numbers of patients transplanted at 70 years or older is steadily increasing. The strength of materials depends on the rate at which they are tested, as defects, for example dislocations, that move in response to applied strains have intrinsic kinetic limitations. As the deformation strain rate increases, more strengthening mechanisms become active and increase the strength. One key aspect of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is pretransplant conditioning, balancing risk for relapse versus non-relapse mortality. Conditioning regimens with different alkylators at different doses can influence outcome, but data are missing for myelofibrosis, a challenging cohort of patients usually presenting at older age and with comorbidities. We evaluated in a multicenter retrospective study the comparative efficacy and safety of busulfan versus treosulfan in combination with fludarabine for myelofibrosis patients undergoing HCT.

Human dentin is a highly organized dental tissue displaying a complex microarchitecture consisting of micrometer-sized tubules encased in a mineralized type-I collagen matrix. As such, it serves as an important substrate for the adhesion of microbial colonizers and oral biofilm formation in the context of dental caries disease, including root caries in the elderly. Despite this issue, there remains a current lack of effective biomimetic dentin models that facilitate the study of oral microbial adhesion by considering the surface architecture at the micro- and nanoscales.
