In patients awaiting an allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation, platelet transfusion is a risk factor for anti-HLA class I immunization because the resulting donor-specific antibodies complicate the allograft process. The objective of the present study was to determine the feasibility of a novel eplet-based strategy for identifying HLA class I mismatches between potential donors and the recipient when pre-allograft platelet transfusions were required. We included 114 recipient/haploidentical relative pairs.

Objective: Serum albumin level is not only one of the protein-energy wasting criteria but also a powerful marker of mortality in patients on haemodialysis (HD) treatment. The study aimed to assess the effect of a protein-enriched snack given during HD treatment on serum albumin level.

Design And Methods: This prospective, single-centre, observational, non-randomized 16-month study was sub-divided into four 4-month periods.

Article Synopsis
  • Secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) often complicates renal disease, especially in patients undergoing hemodialysis, and this study aimed to track mineral metabolism changes and identify risk factors over 36 months of treatment.
  • Researchers monitored serum levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH), calcium, phosphate, and bone-specific markers, finding that while PTH initially dropped, it eventually increased significantly, linked to the correction of calcium and phosphorus levels.
  • Severe SHPT occurred in 18% of patients, with higher baseline PTH and CTX levels indicating greater risk, highlighting that female sex, along with elevated starting levels, can predict the development of severe SHPT.

Introduction: Citrate 4% is an alternative to heparin as catheter-locking solution in chronic hemodialysis patients. We compared catheter dysfunction episodes, dialysis adequacy, plasminogen-tissular activators use and costs according to catheter-locking solution in our centre.

Methods: Prospective, monocentric, cohort study (NephroCare Tassin-Charcot) on 49 prevalent patients in chronic hemodialysis.

Background/aims: Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) is secreted by cardiomyocytes under stretch condition. High blood levels are associated with decreased patient survival in heart failure patients and in hemodialysis (HD) patients. We report the monthly BNP change in the first months of HD therapy in incident patients and its relationship with fluid removal and cardiac history (CH).
