Objective: Determine whether data collected from a smartphone camera can be used to detect anemia in a pediatric population.
Methods: HEMO-AI (Hemoglobin Easy Measurement by Optical Artificial Intelligence), a clinical study carried out from December 2020 to February 2023, recruited patients from the Pediatric Emergency Department, Pediatric Inpatient Department and Pediatric Hematology Unit of the Haemek Medical Center, Afula, Israel. A population-based sample of 823 patients aged 6 months to 18 years who had undergone a venous blood draw for a complete blood count since being admitted to the hospital were enrolled.
This study evaluates the neurocognitive and electrophysiological effects of 1-year memantine treatment in 14 adolescents and young adults (mean age 24 years) with sickle cell disease (SCD, incluing sickle cell anaemia and sickle cell β-thalassemia), hypothesizing improvements in cognitive functions and neural processing. Participants underwent assessments using subtests from the Wechsler Intelligence Scale and a computerized task-switching paradigm with concurrent event-related potential (ERP) recordings, both before and after the treatment period. Assessments focused on processing speed, working memory, attention and executive function.

A promising approach involves utilizing ultrafast modulation of the complex refractive index, where sending probe pulses to the detection crystals will result in changes in picoseconds (ps), and thus a sub-10 ps coincidence time resolution can be realized. Towards this goal, here, we aim to first measure the ps changes in probe pulses using an ionizing radiation source with high time resolutionWe used relativistic, ultrafast electrons to induce complex refractive index and use probe pulses in the near-infrared (800 nm) and terahertz (THz, 300m) regimes to test the hypothesized wavelength-squared increase in absorption coefficient in the Drude free-carrier absorption model.

In this retrospective, observational cohort study, we used Medicaid claims data from a national health insurer to compare health outcomes between females who used and who did not use a doula (2014-2023). We conducted propensity score matching using a 1:1 case‒control match, without replacement, and fit logistic regressions to analyze the relative risks for maternal health outcomes.
