Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates whether total pancreatectomy (TP) provides better oncological outcomes than partial pancreatectomy (PP) for patients with high-risk IPMN-associated cancer, focusing on local recurrence and secondary progression.
  • It compares data from 359 patients, showing that while TP offers improved local disease-free survival (local-DFS), there is no significant difference in overall survival (OS) between TP and PP.
  • The findings suggest that TP could be more beneficial for younger patients who are likely to benefit from reduced recurrence risk, while elderly patients may not see the same advantage in OS.

Purpose: Every year around 70,000 people in Germany suffer from an abdominal incisional hernia that requires surgical treatment. Five years after reconstruction about 25% reoccur. Incisional hernias are usually closed with mesh using various reconstruction techniques, summarized here as standard reconstruction (SR).

Purpose: Incisional hernias often follow open abdominal surgery. A small-stitch-small-bite suture might close the incision durably. We analyzed specific details of this closure technique and assessed their influence on the closure stability.

Evidence to support cryoprecipitate for reversal of alteplase-related hemorrhagic conversion of acute ischemic stroke is limited. Guidelines recommend cryoprecipitate as first line treatment, followed by aminocaproic acid as a conditional recommendation with very low-quality evidence. The purpose of this case series was to describe the use of cryoprecipitate for alteplase-related hemorrhagic conversion of acute ischemic stroke.

Hernia repair strengthens the abdominal wall with a textile mesh. Recurrence and pain indicate weak bonds between mesh and tissue. It remains a question which biomechanical factors strengthen the mesh-tissue interface, and whether surgeons can enhance the bond between mesh and tissue.
