Molecular epidemiological survey of Babesia species infecting cattle in Paraguay.

Paraguay, an agricultural country in South America, has a high prevalence of tick infestations in its cattle population due to warm temperatures, high humidity, and extensive grazing management practices. Consequently, Babesia infections, which are transmitted by ticks, might have a wide distribution in Paraguay, but the current status of these infections remains uncertain. Therefore, we aimed to assess the infection status of three clinically significant Babesia species, including Babesia bovis, Babesia bigemina, and Babesia naoakii, among cattle populations in Paraguay.

Reading Comprehension in Older Adults-Effects of Age, Educational Level, and Reading Habits.

Older adults in the third-age group (60-79 years) maintain reading comprehension skills similar to those of younger adults, but little is known about individuals in the fourth age (80+ years). This study investigates differences in reading comprehension in a between-group design. We evaluated a sample of 150 older adults, comprising 86 third-age and 64 fourth-age participants.

Syngap1 promotes cognitive function through regulation of cortical sensorimotor dynamics.

Perception, a cognitive construct, emerges through sensorimotor integration (SMI). The genetic mechanisms that shape SMI required for perception are unknown. Here, we demonstrate in mice that expression of the autism/intellectual disability gene, Syngap1, in cortical excitatory neurons is required for the formation of somatomotor networks that promote SMI-mediated perception.

YAP1 is a prognostic marker and its inhibition reduces tumor progression in adrenocortical tumors.

Background: Adrenocortical cancer (ACC) is rare and aggressive, with YAP1 overexpression associated with poor outcomes in pediatric patients. In this study, we investigated the mechanisms by which YAP1 drives ACC progression and explored it as a potential target therapy.

Methods: YAP1 expression and methylation in ACC were analyzed from pediatric and adult cohorts.

Precocious Puberty as a Unique Presentation of Hepatoblastoma in a Pediatric Patient: A Case Report.

Hepatoblastoma is a rare pediatric cancer. Hepatoblastoma typically presents asymptomatically with an enlarging abdominal mass but can be associated with paraneoplastic secretion of beta-gonadotropin leading it to present like peripheral precocious puberty. This case highlights a rare initial presentation of hepatoblastoma as precocious puberty in a two-year-old patient who presented with persistent abdominal and genital pain.
