Cerebral hemodynamic monitoring combined with infusion test in hydrocephalus.

Introduction: Disturbance in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) circulation may overlap with abnormality of cerebral blood flow (CBF) in hydrocephalus. Transcranial Doppler (TCD) ultrasonography is a non-invasive technique able to assess CBF velocity (CBFv) dynamics in response to a controlled rise in ICP during CSF infusion tests.

Research Question: Which TCD-derived cerebral hemodynamic parameters change during controlled rise of ICP, and in which direction?

Material And Methods: Infusion tests combined with TCD monitoring and non-invasive monitoring of arterial blood pressure (ABP) were conducted in 65 hydrocephalic patients.

Multicentric Case Series and Literature Review of Coccidioidal Otomastoiditis.

Coccidioidomycosis involving the ear, mastoid bone, or both is uncommon. We describe 5 new cases from the United States and review 4 cases reported in the literature of otomycosis and mastoiditis caused by Coccidioides. Of the 9 cases, 8 were linked to residence in or travel to California.

Fighting Food Waste by Law: Making Sense of the Chinese Approach.

The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress adopted the in April 2021 to guarantee grain security, conserve resources, and protect the environment. We pursue three research questions: Why has China implemented a law with sanctions to reduce food waste, and why now? Why does the law target the catering industry? To answer these questions, we collected primary data through semi-structured interviews with government officials, as well as secondary data through recorded interviews available online with officials of the Legislative Affairs Commission of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPCSC) and food waste activists, as well as NPCSC conference reports. We find a legal approach with sanctions was necessary since cultural aspects, specifically conventional Chinese dining habits and pop culture, are difficult to regulate through instruments without sanctions.

Dose-dependent association between xerostomia and number of medications among older adults.

Purpose/aim: To investigate factors associated with self-reported dry mouth (xerostomia) among older adults seeking dental care at a University clinic.

Materials And Methods: A query was performed in the electronic records database and de-identified data were collected from patients aged 65 + recorded on the date that the initial health history was entered. Among these patients, data about patients' medications, gender, age, BMI, tobacco use, alcohol addiction, diabetes, heart disease, joint replacement, allergies to medications, hypertension, and mental disorders were obtained.
