Objective: Medical laboratory data together with prescribing and hospitalisation records are three of the most used electronic health records (EHRs) for data-driven health research. In Scotland, hospitalisation, prescribing and the death register data are available nationally whereas laboratory data is captured, stored and reported from local health board systems with significant heterogeneity. For researchers or other users of this regionally curated data, working on laboratory datasets across regional cohorts requires effort and time.

Elevated cancer incidence has been reported among World Trade Center (WTC)-exposed responders, with some incidence rate ratios (IRRs) varying over time. This study describes the influence that different reference populations have on relative cancer incidence and temporal trends. Participants from the WTC Combined Rescue/Recovery Cohort (n = 65,691) were observed between 1/1/2002 and 12/31/2015 using data obtained from 13 state cancer registries.

Effectively targeting intracellular pathways in cancers requires a system that specifically delivers to tumors and internalizes into cancer cells. To achieve this goal, we developed intracellular-delivering (ID) Salmonella with controllable expression of flhDC, to regulate flagella production and cell invasion. We hypothesized that controlling flhDC would overcome the poor colonization seen in prior clinical trials.

Background: Lower-than-expected recruitment continues to be one of the major causes of trial delays, and trials to improve mental health are no exception. Indeed, recruitment challenges in trials of vulnerable populations, such as those living with mental health illness, can even be exacerbated. To address this, researchers are turning to digital and online recruitment strategies, e.

De novo peptide design exhibits great potential in materials engineering, particularly for the use of plastic-binding peptides to help remediate microplastic pollution. There are no known peptide binders for many plastics-a gap that can be filled with de novo design. Current computational methods for peptide design exhibit limitations in sampling and scaling that could be addressed with quantum computing.
