Molecular Approach to Colorectal Carcinoma: Current Evidence and Clinical Application.

Colorectal carcinoma is one of the most common cancer types in men and women, responsible for both the third highest incidence of new cancer cases and the third highest cause of cancer deaths. In the last several decades, the molecular mechanisms surrounding colorectal carcinoma's tumorigenesis have become clearer through research, providing new avenues for diagnostic testing and novel approaches to therapeutics. Laboratories are tasked with providing the most current information to help guide clinical decisions.

Very Young Infants' Sensitivity to Consonant Mispronunciations in Word Recognition.

Before they start to talk, infants learn the form and meaning of many common words. In the present work, we investigated the nature of this word knowledge, testing the specificity of very young infants' (6-14 months) phonological representations in an internet-based language-guided-looking task using correct pronunciations and initial-consonant mispronunciations of common words. Across the current sample (n=78 out of 96 pre-registered), infants' proportion looking to the target (named image) versus the distracter was significantly lower when the target word was mispronounced, indicating sensitivity to phonological deviation.

Relating referential clarity and phonetic clarity in infant-directed speech.

Psycholinguistic research on children's early language environments has revealed many potential challenges for language acquisition. One is that in many cases, referents of linguistic expressions are hard to identify without prior knowledge of the language. Likewise, the speech signal itself varies substantially in clarity, with some productions being very clear, and others being phonetically reduced, even to the point of uninterpretability.

Pathology of Acute and Acute-on-Chronic Liver Failure.

Liver failure can develop as either acute liver failure in the absence of preexisting liver disease, or as acute-on-chronic liver failure in a patient with underlying chronic liver disease or cirrhosis. A timely liver biopsy is helpful to distinguish acute and chronic liver disease, identify precipitating factors, provide prognostic information based on pathologic changes, and aid in making appropriate decisions for patient management. This article will discuss the pathologic features of acute and acute-on-chronic liver failure.

Identifying the critical physically demanding tasks performed by personal support workers in Canada.

Due to increased work demands, personal support workers (PSWs) are experiencing more work-related injuries. However, little is known about PSW work tasks and their corresponding physical demand. The purpose of this study was to identify critical tasks that are physically demanding and completed frequently as identified by PSWs.
