Comparison of regular with NPH insulin vs. premix insulin in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes in a resources-limited setting: a retrospective data analysis.

Objectives: Few studies addressed the efficacy of human insulin regimens (mostly premix insulin) used in many low-and-middle income countries on glycemic control of children and adolescents with diabetes. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of the premix insulin on the glycated hemoglobin (HbA) in comparison to the regular with NPH insulin scheme.

Methods: A retrospective study was carried out from January 2020 to September 2022 on patients with type 1 diabetes aged below 18 years followed in Burkina Life For A Child program.

[Prevalence of Chronic Complications of Sickle Cell Disease at the Bobo-Dioulasso Teaching Hospital, Burkina Faso].

This is a descriptive cross-sectional unicentric study, with a prospective collection of data on the frequency of chronic complications of sickle cell disease in patients monitored at Souro Sanou University Hospital in Bobo-Dioulasso in the department of medicine conducted from April 1, 2017 to July 31, 2018. Patients with confirmed adult sickle cell disease, at least 16 years of age, who had given oral consent, was seen at least twice in the inter-critical period during the study, and who had performed a biological and / or radiological screening for chronic complications. Out of 144 sickle cell patients seen, 79 met our inclusion criteria.

Diabetes is a powerful independent cardiovascular risk factor. The aim of this study is to describe the electrocardiographic and echocardiographic abnormalities observed in patients with type 2 diabetes treated in the Department of Medicine at the University Hospital in Bobo-Dioulasso. We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study of all patients with type 2 diabetes who gave consent from April to September 2014.

[Characteristics of Low-Level Persistent viraemias in HIV-1 Patients Treated with Second-Line ARVs at the Sourô Sanou Teaching Hospital of Bobo-Dioulasso (Burkina Faso)].

We describe the characteristics of patients infected with HIV-1 as second-line antiretroviral therapy, with persisting low-level viremia. This was a descriptive retrospective study, conducted from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2016, from the Cohort of the Infectious Diseases Department of Bobo-Dioulasso University Hospital. Patients infected with HIV-1, a second line of stable ARV treatment, with ≥95% compliance for at least 12 months, asymptomatic with CVp between 50 and 1000 copies/ml in two consecutive samplings at least 3 months apart.

High Nasal Carriage Rate of Staphylococcus aureus Containing Panton-Valentine leukocidin- and EDIN-Encoding Genes in Community and Hospital Settings in Burkina Faso.

The objectives of the present study were to investigate the rate of S.aureus nasal carriage and molecular characteristics in hospital and community settings in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso. Nasal samples (n = 219) were collected from 116 healthy volunteers and 103 hospitalized patients in July and August 2014.
