Stability and Properties of Ultraviolet Filter Avobenzone under Its Diketo/Enol Tautomerization Induced by Molecular Encapsulation with β-Cyclodextrin.

Inclusion complexation of the sunscreen ingredient avobenzone (AVB) with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) was investigated to improve its aqueous solubility and photostability; another ultraviolet (UV) filter, oxybenzone (OXB), and the phytochemical antioxidant curcumin (CUR) served as a comparison. In this study, the 1-octanol/water partition coefficients, acid dissociation constants, phase-solubility diagrams with β-CD, and ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectral changes induced by UVA1 (365 nm) irradiation were evaluated. β-CD at concentrations 50-100 times that of AVB most effectively protected the photostability of AVB.

Alkylation of Complex Glycine Precursor (CGP) as a Prebiotic Route to 20 Proteinogenic Amino Acids Synthesis.

It is not known why the number of proteinogenic amino acids is limited to 20. Since Miller's experiment, many studies have shown that amino acids could have been generated under prebiotic conditions. However, the amino acid compositions obtained from simulated experiments and exogenous origins are different from those of life.

Delayed dinnertime impairs glucose tolerance in healthy young adults.

To explore the relationship between mealtime delays of up to 3 h and subsequent glucose fluctuations, healthy young adults were allocated to three delayed dinnertimes in randomized order. Participants consumed test meals for lunch and dinner. After assessing the glucose responses using intermittently scanned continuous glucose monitoring devices (isCGM), the peak glucose elevation, and incremental area under the curve (iAUC) of postprandial glucose during certain intervals increased significantly when the time between lunch and dinner was delayed by 1 h or more.

Using singular value decomposition to analyze drug/β-cyclodextrin mixtures: insights from X-ray powder diffraction patterns.

Size effect of fluorescent thiol-organosilica particles on their distribution in the mouse spleen.

We investigated the distribution of intravenously administered thiol-organosilica particle (thiol-OS) in the spleen to evaluate their size effect in mice. A single administration of particles of thiol-OS containing rhodamine B (Rh) (90, 280, 340, 450, 630, 1110, 1670, and 3030 nm in diameter) was performed. After 24 h, we conducted a combination analysis using histological studies by fluorescent microscopy and quantitative inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), which revealed no clear correlation between the particle size and spleen uptake of particle weight and number per tissue weight, and the injection dose.
