Attention moderates the motion silencing effect for dynamic orientation changes in a discrimination task.

Being able to detect changes in our visual environment reliably and quickly is important for many daily tasks. The motion silencing effect describes a decrease in the ability to detect feature changes for faster moving objects compared with stationary or slowly moving objects. One theory is that spatiotemporal receptive field properties in early vision might account for the silencing effect, suggesting that its origins are low-level visual processing.

Changes in Behavioral Health Visits, Operations, and Boarding in a Pediatric Emergency Department.

Study Objective: Over the past decade, there has been a dramatic increase in pediatric emergency department (PED) visits seeking mental and behavioral health care. We aimed to determine the relationship between hours of care devoted to patients with mental and behavioral health complaints and markers of PED throughput and timeliness.

Methods: We performed a retrospective, single-center, cross-sectional study of PED encounters between 2010 and 2022.

Induction chemotherapy followed by standard chemoradiotherapy versus standard chemoradiotherapy alone in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer (GCIG INTERLACE): an international, multicentre, randomised phase 3 trial.

Background: Locally advanced cervical cancer is treated with chemoradiotherapy (standard of care), but many patients still relapse and die from metastatic disease. We investigated chemoradiotherapy with or without induction chemotherapy to determine whether induction chemotherapy improves both progression-free survival and overall survival.

Methods: The INTERLACE trial was a multicentre, randomised phase 3 trial done at 32 medical centres in Brazil, India, Italy, Mexico, and the UK.

White matter hyperintensity genetic risk factor TRIM47 regulates autophagy in brain endothelial cells.

White matter hyperintensity (WMH) is strongly correlated with age-related dementia and hypertension, but its pathogenesis remains obscure. Genome-wide association studies identified TRIM47 at the 17q25 locus as a top genetic risk factor for WMH formation. TRIM family is a class of E3 ubiquitin ligase with pivotal functions in autophagy, which is critical for brain endothelial cell (ECs) remodeling during hypertension.
