Article Synopsis
  • A new grading system for assessing complexity in ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) was developed, addressing the inadequacies of the ASGE classification.
  • Data from over 16,000 procedures showed that the ASGE model fails to accurately predict complications, prompting the creation of a dual scoring system focusing on both success probability and risk level.
  • The newly proposed SASE (Success and Adverse Event Score in Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) demonstrated high predictive accuracy for therapeutic outcomes and complications, suggesting its potential usefulness in ERCP planning and training.

Prophylaxis: 1:  ESGE recommends routine rectal administration of 100 mg of diclofenac or indomethacin immediately before endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in all patients without contraindications to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug administration.Strong recommendation, moderate quality evidence. 2:  ESGE recommends prophylactic pancreatic stenting in selected patients at high risk for post-ERCP pancreatitis (inadvertent guidewire insertion/opacification of the pancreatic duct, double-guidewire cannulation).

The quality assurance program "Benchmarking ERCP", that his been under the patronage of the ÖGGH for ten years (with a one-year break in 2008), in collaboration with the Institute for Applied Statistics University Linz, has followed patient safety measures and successes while undergoing ERCP in Austria. A total of 28 319 examinations were registered. The participating centers all had different ERCP frequency and variable expertise, thereby enabling them to recognise individual problems in terms of success, cannulation and complication rates (3.

Objective: This research examines health information (HI) seeking and use among middle-aged and older adults with chronic health conditions.

Method: We used logistic regression models to analyze HI seeking ( N = 7,822) and use (N = 4,541-4,547) among participants (aged 45+ years) with chronic conditions from the nationally-representative Health Tracking Household Survey.

Results: Adults aged 45+ years with chronic conditions were significantly more likely to seek and use HI; however, these results varied based on the age and education.

This Guideline is an official statement of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE). It addresses the prophylaxis of post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (post-ERCP) pancreatitis. Main recommendations 1 ESGE recommends routine rectal administration of 100 mg of diclofenac or indomethacin immediately before or after ERCP in all patients without contraindication.
