Microplatelets of the layered-kagome compound BaCo(VO)(OH), which is the Co analogue of mineral vesignieite BaCu(VO)(OH), have been prepared with very high yield by hydrothermal reaction using synthetic karpenkoite CoVO(OH)·2HO as starting reagent. The Rietveld refinement of X-ray diffraction data indicates that CoVO(OH)·2HO is isostructural with martyite ZnVO(OH)·2HO. Two single-phased samples of microstructured BaCo(VO)(OH) have been characterized using powder X-ray diffraction, FT-IR and Raman spectroscopies, thermal analyses, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and magnetisation measurements.

The emergency department (ED) is one clinical setting where issues pertaining to health communication uniquely manifest themselves on a daily basis. This pilot study sought to understand satisfaction with care, perceptions of medical staff concern, awareness, and comprehension of medical care among Spanish-speaking patients with limited English-language proficiency (LEP). A two-phase, mixed-methods approach was employed among Spanish-speaking patients with LEP that presented to an ED in West Central Florida.

Introduction: Provider-patient language discrepancies can lead to misunderstandings about follow-up care instructions and decreased adherence to treatment that may contribute to disparities in health outcomes among patients with limited English proficiency (LEP). This observational study aimed to understand how emergency department (ED) staff went about treating patients with LEP and examine the impact of consistent interpretation modality on overall patient satisfaction and comprehension.

Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted among Spanish-speaking patients with LEP presenting to the ED.

Aim Of The Study: To assess the value of the coronary flow reserve (CFR) in the left anterior descending artery (LAD) during dobutamine stress echocardiography in the diagnosis of significant LAD stenosis (more than 70%).

Method: Retrospective study of 81 patients with a positive stress echocardiography who underwent a coronarography.

Results: Measurement of coronary flow reserve was able in half echocardiographic exams.

The accuracy of contrast-enhanced cine magnetic resonance (cine-MR) imaging to determine left ventricular function was assessed by comparison with the established noncontrast cine-MR sequences. Contrast-enhanced balanced steady-state free precession (cine-SSFP) sequences were compared with precontrast cine-SSFP sequences in the assessment of left ventricular contractile function in 30 consecutive patients with various cardiac diseases. Five to eight short-axis image sections were obtained in each patient.
