Non-smoking, non-drinking, oral squamous cell carcinoma patients are a distinct and clinically significant group.

Purpose: Carcinogenesis of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) has long been associated with exposure to tobacco smoke and alcohol consumption. Some centres have reported that non-smoking non-drinking (NSND) patients represent a significant and increasing proportion of OSCC cases with reports of poorer outcomes. Demographic characteristics are variably reported for this group and carcinogenesis is not fully understood.

Case report: Disseminated histoplasmosis in a renal transplant recipient from a non-endemic region.

Histoplasmosis is the most common endemic fungal infection in the USA. The majority of cases are asymptomatic and have clear exposure to endemic regions. In contrast, we present an adolescent immunocompromised patient with systemic and relatively non-specific symptoms including abdominal pain, weight loss, lower extremity edema, and scabbing skin lesions, without known exposure to endemic areas for histoplasmosis.

Cutaneous Ganglioneuromas With Overlying Epidermal Hyperplasia: A Case Series Presentation and Proposal of Potential Etiopathogenesis.

Cutaneous ganglioneuromas (GNs) are exceptionally uncommon tumors, and many reported cases describe association with overlying epidermal hyperplasia that may be interpreted as seborrheic keratosis (SK) or SK-like proliferation. We report 5 cases of cutaneous GN in adult patients; all of which were discovered incidentally in the immediate vicinity of epidermal hyperplasia. A review of the literature demonstrates the current-although likely imperfect-understanding of the etiopathogenesis of both SK and GN in the skin.

Survival in node-positive early oral squamous cell carcinoma: sentinel node biopsy versus elective neck dissection.

Patients undergoing sentinel node biopsy (SLNB) for early oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) who harbour occult metastases (pN+ve) may be at greater risk of mortality due to prolonged overall treatment times than those identified as pN+ve on elective neck dissection (ELND). A retrospective comparative survival analysis was therefore undertaken to test this hypothesis. Patients were identified from the South Glasgow multidisciplinary team (MDT) database.
