Background: High-level median or ulnar nerve injuries and repairs typically result in suboptimal re-innervation of distal muscles. Functioning Free Muscle Transplantation (FFMT) is increasingly recognized as an effective method to restore function in chronic muscle denervation cases. This study investigates the efficacy of using an additional FFMT, neurotized by lateral sprouting axons from a repaired high-level mixed nerve in the upper limb, to enhance distal hand function.

Article Synopsis
  • * Research on Dlgap2 mutant mice showed that while their overall odor detection was similar to normal mice, they showed less interest in certain smells (banana and almond) but reacted more to unfamiliar bedding smells.
  • * The absence of DLGAP2 protein in Homo mutant mice affected their brain's response to odors, which suggests altered synaptic signaling in their olfactory systems and could inform future strategies for diagnosing and treating ASD-related olfactory issues.

Background: Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging enables imaging of scar/fibrosis and is a cornerstone of most CMR imaging protocols. CMR imaging can benefit from image acceleration; however, image acceleration in LGE remains challenging due to its limited signal-to-noise ratio. In this study, we sought to evaluate a rapid 2D LGE imaging protocol using a generative artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm with inline reconstruction.

In this study, we developed a lightweight and rapid convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture for chest X-ray images; it primarily consists of a redesigned feature extraction (FE) module and multiscale feature (MF) module and validated using publicly available COVID-19 datasets. Experiments were conducted on multiple updated versions of the COVID-19 Radiography Database, a publicly accessible dataset on Kaggle. The database contained images categorized into three classes: COVID-19 coronavirus, viral or bacterial pneumonia, and normal.
