Article Synopsis
  • - Neurodegenerative diseases are increasingly prevalent, prompting research for new treatments; a series of six novel compounds were synthesized to target mitochondrial oxidative stress and show potential as therapeutic agents.
  • - These compounds displayed varying affinities for their target, with one compound achieving notable affinity comparable to an existing drug, and demonstrated antioxidant properties, although their effectiveness was only low to moderate.
  • - The research included evaluation of these compounds' effects on neuroblastoma cells, revealing a clear link between chemical structure and toxicity, alongside computational studies aimed at refining their design for better therapeutic utility.

In a highly dynamic and complex environment where risks and uncertainties are inevitable, the ability of a system to quickly recover from disturbances and maintain optimal performance is crucial for ensuring operational continuity and efficiency. In this context, resilience has become an increasingly important topic in the field of engineering and the management of productive systems. However, there is no single quantitative indicator of resilience that allows for the measurement of this characteristic in a productive system.

Aberrant activation of the Hedgehog (Hh) signalling pathway has been associated with the development and progression of pancreatic cancer. For this reason, blockade of Hh pathway by inhibitors targeting the G protein-coupled receptor Smoothened (SMO) has been considered as a therapeutic target for the treatment of this cancer. In our previous work, we obtained a new SMO ligand based on a purine scaffold (compound I), which showed interesting antitumor activity in several cancer cell lines.

Background: Durvalumab, used as consolidation immunotherapy, has shown to improve survival in patients with stage III non-small cell lung cancer who respond to chemoradiotherapy, based on the most recent follow-up of PACIFIC. The Chilean healthcare system provides access to certain immunotherapies for this condition. The present study sought to estimate the budget impact of durvalumab versus standard of care in the context of the Chilean healthcare system.

The complexity of the agroecosystem can also be assessed by the different land uses in the system and the surroundings, being a relevant way to assess the heterogeneity of the landscape and the effects on the community of interest, in this case, entomofauna. Thus, the objective of this work is to verify how the use of soil in the surroundings of Chilean lettuce horticultural systems, in the Coquimbo Region, alters the entomological community of the crop. Insect sampling was conducted (February 2021 to March 2022) using yellow pan traps.
