Objectives: This initiative assessed the integration of the Human Factors Analysis and Classification System, adapted from aviation, into emergency medicine morbidity and mortality rounds. The objective was to determine whether incorporating the Human Factors Analysis and Classification System could lead to a perceived increase in the overall quality of morbidity and mortality presentations through the standardization of classifying cause factors of medical errors.

Methods: This study involved eight emergency medicine residents who applied the adapted Human Factors Analysis and Classification System framework to their morbidity and mortality case presentations over 6 months.

The oncomutation lysine 27-to-methionine in histone H3 (H3K27M) is frequently identified in tumors of patients with diffuse midline glioma-H3K27 altered (DMG-H3K27a). H3K27M inhibits the deposition of the histone mark H3K27me3, which affects the maintenance of transcriptional programs and cell identity. Cells expressing H3K27M are also characterized by defects in genome integrity, but the mechanisms linking expression of the oncohistone to DNA damage remain mostly unknown.

Protein function is canonically believed to be more conserved than amino acid sequence, but this idea is only well supported in folded domains, where highly diverged sequences can fold into equivalent 3D structures. In contrast, intrinsically disordered protein regions (IDRs) do not fold into a stable 3D structure, thus it remains unknown when and how function is conserved for IDRs that experience rapid amino acid sequence divergence. As a model system for studying the evolution of IDRs, we examined transcriptional activation domains, the regions of transcription factors that bind to coactivator complexes.

Article Synopsis
  • Brown seaweeds are vital to coastal ecosystems, but they are threatened by climate change, prompting a detailed genetic study.
  • The research traced the evolutionary history of brown algae, highlighting significant gene families and metabolic pathways related to their adaptation and functional diversity.
  • Findings also indicated that the integration of large viral genomes has played a crucial role in shaping the genetics and traits of brown algal species over time.

The nutritional content of food in carceral institutions is important because it influences weight gain and health during incarceration. This systematic review assessed the available quantitative data and nutritional analyses of food in carceral institutions. Methodology is based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses statement with four phases (identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion).
