Purpose: This research explored the impact of neighborhood density (ND), word frequency (WF), and word length (WL) on the vocabulary size of Danish-speaking children. Given the particular phonological properties of Danish, the impact was expected to differ from that reported in studies on English and French.

Method: The monosyllabic words in the expressive lexicons of 894 Danish-speaking 2-year-old children were coded for ND, WF, and WL.

Introduction: It was hypothesized that long-duration exposures to toxic levels of hyperoxia would have effects on respiratory control function or activity.

Methods: Ventilatory parameters of human subjects breathing spontaneously at rest were measured before, during, and after hyperoxia in a study of organ systems' tolerance to toxic O2 exposures at 1.5 ATA (17.

Optimization of oxygen tolerance extension by intermittent exposure was studied in groups of 20 rats exposed to systematically varied patterns of alternating oxygen and normoxic breathing periods at 4.0, 2.0, and 1.

Breathing 100% O2 at 1 atmosphere absolute (ATA) is known to be associated with a decrease in cerebral blood flow (CBF). It is also accompanied by a fall in arterial Pco2 leading to uncertainty as to whether the cerebral vasoconstriction is totally or only in part caused by arterial hypocapnia. We tested the hypothesis that the increase in arterial Po2 while O2 was breathed at 1.
