We describe a severe case of swimmer's itch in Victoria with widespread bullous eruption, which is a rare manifestation of this condition and presented a diagnostic challenge. This is the first case reported in Victoria, having been previously reported in more northern parts of Australia; with climate change trends, swimmer's itch is likely to become increasingly common in southern parts of the region.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe report a case of a 42-year-old woman (Gravida 1, Para 1) who presented in her third trimester of pregnancy with a photo distributed eruption and arthralgias and was subsequently diagnosed with dermatomyositis. She had an emergency Caesarean section at 34 weeks plus 6 days gestation due to decreased fetal movements and non-reassuring fetal heart rate. Her placenta was sent for histopathology and showed features of massive perivillous fibrin deposition.

Despite the announced political willingness and the increasing pressure from the legislator to avoid costly inpatient treatment by carrying out as many outpatient operations as possible, outpatient treatment has so far played a subordinate role in the DACH region. The Boards of the specialist societies the German Hernia Society (DHG), the Surgical Working Group Hernia (CAH of the DHG), the Austrian Hernia Society (ÖHG) and the Swiss Working Group Hernia Surgery (SAHC) make inroads into this problem, describe the initial position and assess the current situation.
