We sequenced and genotyped severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), influenza, adenovirus, and respiratory syncytial virus, among other pathogens, from residual anterior nasal swabs self-collected for rapid SARS-CoV-2 antigen testing at the US Naval Academy. This is a key proof-of-concept for an acute respiratory infection surveillance approach, which could leverage prevalent SARS-CoV-2 antigen self-testing.

Objective eye-tracking may provide an alternative means of neurotrauma screening due to sensitivity to neurotrauma brain-health changes. Previously, the US Army Medical Research and Development Command Non-Invasive NeuroAssessment Devices (NINAD) Integrated Product Team identified 3 commercially available eye-tracking devices (SyncThink EYE-SYNC, Oculogica EyeBOX, NeuroKinetics IPAS) as meeting criteria toward being operationally effective in the detection of TBI in service members.

Replication protein A (RPA) binds single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) and serves critical functions in eukaryotic DNA replication, the DNA damage response, and DNA repair. During DNA replication, RPA is required for extended origin DNA unwinding and DNA synthesis. To determine the requirements for RPA during these processes, we tested ssDNA-binding proteins (SSBs) from different domains of life in reconstituted Saccharomyces cerevisiae origin unwinding and DNA replication reactions.
