Insights into the Y chromosome human diversity in Uruguay.

Background: With regard to the origin of its population and microevolutionary processes, Uruguay exhibits distinctive features that distinguish it from other countries in Latin America, while at the same time sharing several similarities. In this article, we will focus on the variability of paternal genetic lineages in two geographical regions with different histories that can be considered as examples of distinct populations for the continent. In general terms, the genetic diversity is a result of different demographic processes related to the American conquest and colonisation.

Wastewater-based epidemiological investigation of SARS-CoV-2 in Porto Alegre, Southern Brazil.

Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) may be successfully used to comprehensively monitor and determine the scale and dynamics of some infections in the community. We monitored severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) RNA in raw wastewater samples from Porto Alegre, Southern Brazil. The samples were collected and analyzed every week between May 2020 to May 2021.

Association between severe periodontitis and chronic kidney disease severity in predialytic patients: A cross-sectional study.

Objective: The aim of this cross-sectional study was to evaluate the association between periodontitis and different severities of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in predialytic patients.

Materials And Methods: Demographic, socioeconomic, and medical data of 139 patients from the nephrology service of one university hospital in Porto Alegre, Brazil, were obtained through interview and clinical records. Full-mouth six-sites per tooth periodontal examinations were performed.

[The relationship between the behavior of students' lifestyle profile and that of their parents].

There is evidence that parental support and behavior impact the healthy behavior of adolescents directly. The scope of this study is to identify the relationship between students' Lifestyle Profile (LP) and that of their parents. Two hundred and eight students aged between 11 and 15 and their respective parents participated in the study.

Lamotrigine-Valproic Acid Interaction Leading to Stevens-Johnson Syndrome.

Lamotrigine (LTG) is currently indicated as adjunctive therapy for focal and generalized tonic-clonic seizures and for treatment of bipolar disorder and neuropathic pain. A common concern with LTG in children is the frequency of appearance of skin rash. The intensity of this adverse effect can vary from transient mild rash to Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), which can be fatal mainly when LTG is coadministered with valproic acid (VPA).
