Comparing Cost and Acceptability of Two Instruments to Measure Instrumental Activities of Daily Living in Older People in Chile.

Introduction: Population aging and increasing long-term care needs call for designing and implementing better tools for assessing functional ability. In Chile, the Lawton and Brody (L&B) scale is used for identifying limitations with instrumental activities. This study compared the costs and acceptability of the L&B with a new instrument to measure instrumental activities of daily living (IADL): the Instrument for the Assessment of Functionality Stages (Instrumento de Evaluación de Estadios de Funcionalidad; IDEEF).

Expanding the molecular versatility of an optogenetic switch in yeast.

In the budding yeast , the FUN-LOV (FUNgal Light Oxygen and Voltage) optogenetic switch enables high levels of light-activated gene expression in a reversible and tunable fashion. The FUN-LOV components, under identical promoter and terminator sequences, are encoded in two different plasmids, which limits its future applications in wild and industrial yeast strains. In this work, we aim to expand the molecular versatility of the FUN-LOV switch to increase its biotechnological applications.

The Social Competence Promotion Program among Young Adolescents (SCPP-YA) in Chile ("Mi Mejor Plan") for substance use prevention among early adolescents: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

Background: Substance use is highly prevalent among children and adolescents in Chile, and it is known how it impacts their health and social adjustment. The call for effective prevention of substance use among children adolescents has resulted in numerous school-based programs, and particularly, the Social Competence Promotion Program among Young Adolescents (SCPP-YA) has been proved to be successful for promoting social and problem-solving skills in addition to preventing substance abuse in the US population. The purpose of this study is to test the effectiveness of the Social Competence Promotion Program among Young Adolescents (SCPP-YA) in Chile ("Mi Mejor Plan").

Child and adolescent Liaison-Consultation Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine in a Clinical-Teaching Hospital.

Psychosomatic medicine explores the psychological, behavioral, and social elements that influence people's health and quality of life. This discipline develops skills and knowledge used in the evalua tion and management of psychosocial elements interfering in the process of illness and healing. The Child and Adolescent Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (CACLP) is a discipline that has been empi rically installed in order to favor adherence to treatments and recovery of children and teenagers du ring the process of illness.

[Changes in the clinical presentation of Influenza A H1N1pdm09 after the pandemic].

Background: After the 2009 influenza pandemic the H1N1pdm09 strain circulate seasonally. In 2015, Puerto Montt Hospital in Chile faced a simultaneous outbreak of both seasonal H3N2 and H1N1pdm09 influenza A (IA).

Aim: To evaluate the clinical differences between the two viral strains and recent changes in the behavior of H1N1pdm09 IA.
