Background: The study was prompted by the high prevalence of hyperglycaemia first detected in pregnancy (HIP) which is classified into diabetes mellitus in pregnancy (DIP) and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). This study aimed to determine the usefulness of Glycosylated Haemoglobin (HBA1c) in the diagnosis of HIP in the first trimester of pregnancy.
Methodology: The study was of a prospective cross-sectional design carried out between January 2020 and August 2020 at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching (UPTH) and Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH).

Background: Malaria is the leading cause of morbidity in Côte d’Ivoire. Therefore, Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Health implemented an exemption policy for Malaria treatment to remove the financial barriers hindering diagnosis and treatment.
Objective: A normative study was carried out at second-level hospital (Abobo Sud General Hospital) from January to October 2017.

Methods: This is a descriptive retrospective cross-sectional study. It involved data from the labor ward and neonatal birth registers of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital on the total number of births and the babies that were delivered with major birth defects between August 2011 and December 2014.
Aplastic anaemia occurring in pregnancy is a rare event with life threatening challenges for both mother and child. We present a successful fetomaternal outcome despite the challenges in the management of this rare condition in a tertiary but resource poor centre. This is case of a 37 year old Nigerian woman G6P0managed with repeated blood transfusions from 28 weeks of gestation for bone marrow biopsy confirmed aplastic anaemia following presentation with weakness and gingival bleeds.
