Novel treatment of acute and acute-on-chronic liver failure: Interleukin-22.

Acute liver failure (ALF) is a life-threatening medical condition, characterized by rapidly progressive hepatic dysfunction, coagulopathy and hepatic encephalopathy in patients without chronic liver disease, while acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) occurs in patients with existing chronic liver disease. ALF and ACLF are often associated with multiple organ failure and a high short-term mortality. In this review, we briefly discuss the causes and pathogenesis of ALF and ACLF, the current options available for the treatment of both deadly maladies and interleukin-22 (IL-22), a novel promising drug that may have great therapeutic potential for ALF and ACLF treatment.

The incidence, risk factors, and outcomes of symptomatic avascular necrosis of bone among Chinese pediatric patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Background: Avascular necrosis (AVN) of bone is a debilitating complication of pediatric patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). While it is extensively studied and reported in Western population, studies focused on Orientals are limited. This study aims to evaluate the incidence, risk factors, and clinical outcomes of AVN among Chinese children with ALL.

Prevention of mother-to-child transmission of hepatitis B virus: An observation of routine practice in a tertiary liver centre before and after the introduction of the global health sector strategy on viral hepatitis.

Introduction: Worldwide, around 296 million people have hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, most commonly transmitted from mother-to-child. Global Health Sector Strategy on Viral Hepatitis (GHSSVH) was introduced in May 2016, calling for elimination of viral hepatitis by 2030. This study aims to compare practice in a tertiary liver centre before and after GHSSVH introduction for prevention of mother-to-child transmission (MTCT).

Cardiac Dopamine-Secreting Paraganglioma with Involved Skull Base and Retroperitoneum After a History of Pheochromocytoma Post Adrenalectomy.

Cardiac paragangliomas are exceedingly rare. Herein, we describe a patient with a large dopaminesecreting cardiac paraganglioma who had a history of pheochromocytoma after right adrenalectomy. The cardiac surgery was uneventful and without blood pressure fluctuations.
