Campylobacter is a common cause of food poisoning in many countries, with broilers being the main source. Organic and free-range broilers are more frequently Campylobacter-positive than conventionally raised broilers and may constitute a higher risk for human infections. Organic and free-range broilers may get exposed to Campylobacter from environmental reservoirs and livestock farms, but the relative importance of these sources is unknown.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explores the phenomenon of pleasant pain relief (PPR) and how it varies among individuals, especially in response to the cold pressor test (CPT), which causes pain but can also lead to relief once it stops.
  • - Researchers analyzed 122 healthy volunteers using a sequential pain testing method, identifying four different groups based on their pain intensity and unpleasantness ratings during the CPT.
  • - Results indicated that while PPR experiences varied significantly across these groups, the overall effectiveness of pain inhibition through inhibitory conditioned pain modulation (ICPM) was consistent among all participants.

Article Synopsis
  • - In a study of patients with moderate to severe aortic stenosis (AS), researchers examined the relationship between two biomarkers, GDF-15 and sST2, and indicators of cardiovascular risk and LV function.
  • - Elevated levels of GDF-15 were linked to worse left ventricular (LV) function and decreased functional capacity, as measured by tests like the 6-minute walk test and gait speed.
  • - Although GDF-15 did not predict AS severity, its high levels may serve as a potential single biomarker to identify patients at greater risk for poor outcomes in AS.
