Incidence of surgical infection in cefazolin 3 g versus 2 g for colorectal surgery in obese patients.

Objective: To compare the incidence of surgical site infection (SSI) between cefazolin 3 g and 2 g surgical prophylaxis in patients weighing ≥120 kg that undergo elective colorectal surgery.

Methods: A multicenter, retrospective cohort study was performed utilizing a validated database of elective colorectal surgeries in Michigan acute care hospitals. Adults weighing ≥120 kg who received cefazolin and metronidazole for surgical prophylaxis between 7/2012 and 6/2021 were included.

Awareness of cardiovascular disease risk and care received among Australian women with a history of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy: a cross-sectional survey.

Background: Women with a history of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), including chronic hypertension, gestational hypertension, and preeclampsia have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Current research suggests that general practitioners are unaware of women's HDP history, and although ideally placed to follow-up with these women, there is limited understanding of current CVD prevention practices in women after HDP. Additionally, preeclampsia confers a higher CVD risk compared to other types of HDP, and Australian research suggests that lower socioeconomic status (SES) is associated with a higher incidence of both HDP and CVD.

Exploring the experiences of women and people with diabetes in pregnancy in metropolitan and rural Australia: a national survey.

Background: Women and people diagnosed with diabetes in pregnancy, are recommended to have frequent monitoring and careful management for optimal pregnancy outcomes. This health care management should be supported by a multidisciplinary healthcare team. For individuals living in rural areas, there are increased barriers to healthcare access, with subsequent worse health outcomes compared to those in metropolitan regions.

Exploring B7-H4's role in prostate cancer dormancy post-androgen deprivation therapy: extracellular matrix interactions and therapeutic opportunities.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is mainly managed with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), but this often leads to a dormant state and subsequent relapse as lethal castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). Using our unique PCa patient-derived xenograft (PDX) dormancy models, we investigated this critical dormant phase and discovered a selective increase in B7-H4 expression during the dormancy period following mouse host castration. This finding is supported by observations in clinical specimens of PCa patients treated with ADT.
