Functional and molecular characterization of a cold-active lipase from Psychrobacter celer PU3 with potential antibiofilm property.

The lipase gene from Psychrobacter celer PU3 was cloned into pET-28a(+) expression vector and overexpressed in E. coli BL21 (DE3) pLysS cells. The purified Psychrobacter celer lipase (PCL) was characterized as an alkaline active enzyme and has a molecular mass of around 30 kDa.

Impact of Genetic Variants in Estrogen Receptor-β Gene in the Etiology of Uterine Leiomyomas.

Background: Uterine leiomyomas are steroid hormone dependent myometrial neoplasms of female genital tract which appear after menarche and regress at menopause. The present study evaluated the role of ER-β gene polymorphisms (rs3020449 C/T, rs3020450 G/A, rs1271572 G/T, rs1256049 G/Aand rs4986938 G/A) in the etiology of disease.

Methods: A total of 150 clinically, ultrasonographically evaluated uterine leiomyoma patients and an equal number of individuals as controls were considered for the present study.

Obesity and the Social Withdrawal Syndrome.

The relation between obesity and Social Withdrawal Syndrome (SWS) was examined using the data gathered by Rotenberg, Bharathi, Davies, and Finch (2013). One hundred and 35 undergraduates (80 females; Mage=21years-10months) completed standardized scales that assessed the SWS (low emotional trust beliefs in close others, low disclosure to close others, and high loneliness). BMI was calculated from self-reported weight and height.

Multiple Sebaceous Horn on the Penis-an Interesting Case Report.

Sebaceous horns (de la Pena Zarzuelo et al., Arch Esp Urol 54:367-368, 2001; Vera-Donoso, Scand J Urol Nephrol 43:92-93, 2009) are rare on the penis, as they are commonly seen only on sun-exposed areas. A 45-year-old male presenting with multiple sebaceous horns of the penis is reported here.
