Procalcitonin as Point-of-Care Testing Modality for the Diagnosis of Pneumonia in Children With Influenza-like Illness.

Objective: To evaluate the usefulness of procalcitonin (PCT) as a point-of-care testing to screen for radiographic pneumonia among children with influenza-like illness (ILI) and prolonged fever.

Methods: A prospective cohort study conducted at the pediatric emergency department of a tertiary hospital. Point-of-care testing for PCT was determined for 185 children aged 3 months to < 18 years with ILI and fever lasting > 4 days seen during the flu season in 2020.

Histological evaluation of two different anorganic bovine bone matrixes in lateral wall sinus elevation procedure: A retrospective study.

Introduction: Grafting in oral implantology involves bone augmentation procedures with various bone graft materials. Success of such procedures is evaluated through the amount of bone volume and bone formed at the grafted site. The primary aim of this prospective study was to histomorphometrically evaluate and compare the new bone formation with Bio Oss or Cerabone in the lateral approach sinus augmentation procedure.

Botulinum toxin type A in the treatment of Raynaud's phenomenon: A three-year follow-up study.

Objective: Raynaud's phenomenon consists of vasospastic disease of the digital arteries after exposure to cold or stress. It causes an important reduction in the patient's quality of life when severe. The available treatments do not always offer favorable results.

Columnar and surface aerosol load over the Iberian Peninsula establishing annual cycles, trends, and relationships in five geographical sectors.

The study of atmospheric aerosol load over the Iberian Peninsula (IP) under a climatological perspective is accomplished by means of PM10 and AOD440 nm measurements from EMEP and AERONET networks, respectively, in the period 2000-2013. The PM10 annual cycles in five Iberian sectors show a main maximum in summer and a secondary maximum in spring, which is only observed in the southern area for the AOD climatology. The characteristics of PM10-AOD annual cycles of each geographical sector are explained by the different climatology of the air mass origins and their apportioning.

Oral infection by Diptera larvae in children: a case report.

Background: Oral myiasis is usually caused by flies of the order Diptera. One of the causes of human myiasis is Cochliomyia hominivorax, which is a true obligate parasite of mammals.

Methods: A case of oral myiasis in a 5-year-old girl is reported.
