Case Series Summary: This case series describes four cats with decompensated congestive heart failure and fulminant cardiogenic pulmonary oedema (CPE) that did not respond to conventional treatment and oxygen therapy, and subsequently developed hypoxaemic respiratory failure. The cats were anaesthetised to enable endotracheal intubation, manually ventilated with 100% oxygen and postural drainage was performed immediately to evacuate pulmonary oedema. Afterwards, the cats were extubated and transitioned to high-flow nasal oxygen (HFNO).

In adulthood, hen's egg white allergy (EWA) is a rare condition and rising in prevalence. Typically, EWA begins in early childhood and resolves at school age. Persistence into adulthood or newly onset of the allergy has been reported, but scientific data is scarce.

Live-cell imaging generally requires pretreatment with fluorophores to either monitor cellular functions or the dynamics of intracellular processes and structures. We have recently introduced full-field optical coherence tomography for the label-free live-cell imaging of fungi with potential clinical applications for the diagnosis of invasive fungal mold infections. While both the spatial resolution and technical set up of this technology are more likely designed for the histopathological analysis of tissue biopsies, there is to our knowledge no previous work reporting the use of a light interference-based optical technique for direct mycological examination and monitoring of intracellular processes.

Introduction: Nodular vasculitis (NV) is a rare form of panniculitis primarily affecting middle-aged females, presenting as painful, sometimes ulcerated nodules on the dorsal lower legs. Erythema induratum of Bazin (EIB) is a form of NV and is considered a manifestation of cutaneous tuberculin hypersensitivity. This retrospective study aims to analyze demographics, clinicopathological findings, laboratory results, and treatment outcomes of NV in a non-TB endemic country.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigated the relationship between sleep apnea syndrome (SAS) and the dosage/timing of opioid substitution treatments (OST) in patients using methadone or buprenorphine for opioid use disorder.
  • It included a retrospective analysis of adult patients who received these treatments over several years, assessing their apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) alongside treatment data.
  • The findings indicated that higher doses of methadone, particularly taken in the evening, were linked to more severe SAS, while no significant association was found between buprenorphine doses and AHI, suggesting buprenorphine might be a better alternative for patients with SAS.
