Gangliosides are known to play an important role in different cell processes. We have investigated the effect of TSH on [14C] glucosamine incorporation into gangliosides of cultured pathological cells isolated from colloid nodular goiter, follicular adenoma, and toxic adenoma. The effect of thyroid stimulating immunoglobulins (TSI) has also been similarly studied on primary cultures from colloid nodular goiter and from porcine thyroid cells.

When compared on the lipid phosphorus basis, viral envelope is found to contain more than twice as much lipid-bound sialic acid as fat-globule membrane. The ganglioside patterns of these two structures appear rather similar, except for the occurrence in fat-globule membrane of a low ganglioside homolog, presumably GM2, not detected in viral envelope.

Single skinned muscle fibres (frog) have been submitted to double Ouchterlony immunodiffusion assays with antibodies directed against the two species of frog parvalbumins. The antigenic material which diffuses out of each fibre contains the two parvalbumins. Their presence in each cell is thus demonstrated.
