Objective: This study aimed to investigate the root canal system morphology of maxillary first molar mesiobuccal (MB) roots in a Brazilian sub-population using micro-computed tomography.

Methods: Ninety-six MB roots were scanned with a micro-CT (Skyscan 1173, Bruker). Three-dimensional images were analyzed regarding the number of pulp chamber orifices, the number and classification of the canals, the presence of accessory canals in different thirds of the root as well as the number and type of apical foramina.

From April to October 2017, 27 cases of Hepatitis A (HA), 22 male and 5 female, were reported in Cosenza (South Italy). The median age of cases was 32 years (range 3-49 years). Out of 21 male adults, 14 were identified as men who have sex with men (MSM).

Background: Inter-laboratory variability in quantifying pathogens involved in viral disease following transplantation may have a great impact on patient care, especially when pre-emptive strategies are used for prevention.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze the variability in quantifying CMV, EBV and BKV DNA from 15 virology laboratories of the Italian Infections in Transplant Working Group (GLaIT) involved in monitoring transplanted patients.

Study Design: Panels from international Quality Control programs for Molecular Diagnostics (QCMD, year 2012), specific for the detection of CMV in plasma, CMV in whole blood (WB), EBV and BKV were used.

Background: Assessing the risk of cytomegalovirus (CMV) viremia in kidney transplant recipients (KTR) may be helpful to indicate in which patient it is worth starting antiviral treatment during preemptive strategy.

Methods: In 40 CMV-seropositive KTR preemptively treated with ganciclovir, we used interferon (IFN)-γ ELISpot test to evaluate whether monitoring T cells directed against phosphoprotein (pp) 65 and immediate early (IE)-1 antigens could predict the onset of viremia.

Results: CMV viremia occurred in 24 patients (60%) within 120 days after transplantation.
