Introduction: Neuropsychologists often use continuously scored measures to create dichotomous cutoff scores for making decisions. Dichotomization allows test users to employ traditional diagnostic statistics, such as sensitivity and specificity, but this approach is conceptually and statistically limited. This study uses simulated data to explore problems with dichotomizing continuous data.

Background: Hand and foot melanomas (HFM) have increased risk for positive margins after conventional excision (CE). Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) may improve margin clearance prior to reconstruction. Rates of reconstruction with positive margins have not been compared after CE versus MMS for HFM.

Throughout the 20th century, coyotes () expanded from their historical geographic range west of the Mississippi River to a current range of almost all of North America. Over the course of this expansion, coyotes have demonstrated diverse and variable omnivorous diets that change with the food resources available. This study examined the stomach contents of 25 coyotes in an area where they are relatively new, the Qualla Boundary in North Carolina, to better understand the diets of coyotes in this area.

The Impact of Hand Nerve Disorders scale is a patient-reported outcome measure for upper limb nerve pathology. We aimed to assess its structural validity using item response theory and to develop computerized adaptive testing algorithms. We conducted a series of psychometric studies to assess constructs measured, applied an item response theory model to the data, then developed computerized adaptive testing algorithms.
