Postrenal transplant erythrocytosis: a review of 53 patients.

Review of a large renal transplant experience revealed a 17.3% incidence of posttransplant erythrocytosis. The influence of kidney source, pretransplant hematocrit, duration of pretransplant dialysis, renal transplant function, acute rejection, transplant renal artery stenosis, urinary tract obstruction, smoking, diabetes, retention of native kidneys, splenectomy, parathyroidectomy, immunosuppression, hypertension, and liver enzyme abnormalities on the development of erythrocytosis in 53 recipients was determined.

Extracellular volume expansion and delayed resolution of hypertension after canine aortic coarctectomy.

The hemodynamic changes occurring after surgical correction of thoracic aortic coarctation were studied in two neonatally coarcted dogs at six months of age and compared to sham surgery in two littermate controls. Excision of the tight iatrogenic aortic band with direct aortic reanastomosis abolished pressure gradients. Post-coarctectomy systemic pressure rose, after an early transient fall, to pre-operative proximal levels and was sustained for two to four weeks before decreasing to control normotensive values.

Renal cyst epithelial transport in non-uremic polycystic kidney disease.

Renal cyst epithelial transport of organic molecules was investigated during three separate cyst drainage procedures in a non-uremic patient with polycystic kidney disease (PCKD). Following constant intravenous insulin infusion, four of eight sampled cysts achieved concentrations exceeding those expected by glomerular filtration alone. Perinephric abscess: an unusual late infectious complication of renal biopsy.

Perinephric hematomas are common after percutaneous needle biopsy of the kidney and are usually clinically occult. Infectious complications in the absence of concomitant urinary tract infection, however, are unusual. A patient is reported who developed perinephric abscess (Streptococcus pneumoniae) at the site of a renal biopsy performed five years earlier.
