Effects of peroxidized soybean oil on growth and energy digestibility in broilers.

Peroxidized lipids have been shown to reduce broiler performance whereupon it was theorized that dietary peroxide value (PV) plus anisidine value (AnV) may be predictive of broiler performance. In experiment (EXP) 1, 64 pens (8 broilers/pen) were fed diets containing 8 levels of peroxidized soybean oil (SO). Broilers were fed diets from 7 to 35 d of age with 8 replications per dietary treatment.

True metabolizable energy, standardized amino acid digestibility, and digestibility of phosphorus in soybean expellers produced from conventional or high-oil varieties of soybeans fed to chickens.

The objective was to test the hypothesis that nitrogen-corrected true metabolizable energy (TME), standardized amino acid (AA) digestibility, and apparent ileal P digestibility are not different in soybean expellers produced from high-oil soybeans (SBE-HO) compared with expellers produced from conventional soybeans (SBE-CV). The two soybean expellers contained approximately 46.3 % crude protein (DM basis).

Nutritional composition, nitrogen-corrected true metabolizable energy, and standardized amino acid digestibility of palm kernel meal from several countries.

Extensive nutritional analyses were conducted for palm kernel meal (PKM) sourced from 5 countries. Two precision-fed rooster trials were conducted to evaluate the nitrogen-corrected true metabolizable energy (TME) and standardized amino acid (AA) digestibility of 10 PKM samples (PKM 1 to 10). The TME was determined using conventional Single Comb White Leghorn roosters, and standardized AA digestibility was determined using cecectomized roosters.

Promoting early goals of care conversations in the CICU with a surprise question-based EHR workflow.

Background: The Surprise Question (SQ) - Would you be surprised if this patient died within the next 6 months? - is a validated tool for mortality prediction. The Mount Sinai Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) incorporated the SQ into a novel EHR workflow to identify patients who would benefit from early initiation of Palliative Care (PC).

Methods: Implementation of the SQ proceeded in two steps.

Translational assessment of anhedonia components: Significant associations between reward anticipation measured via behavioural task performance, daily smartphone reports, and general anhedonia questionnaires.

Anhedonia, a reduction in pleasure in previously enjoyed activities, is a hallmark feature of depression and is also of transdiagnostic relevance to many psychiatric disorders. Treatment and measurement of anhedonia are significant challenges. We examine anhedonia components, combining experimental training, with multimodal anhedonia assessment, comprising standard questionnaire instruments, a widely-used behavioural task, and daily reports of reward experience.
