Stroke is the second leading cause of death and a major cause of disability around the world, and the development of atherosclerotic plaques in the carotid arteries is generally considered the leading cause of severe cerebrovascular events. In recent years, new reports have reinforced the role of an accurate histopathological analysis of carotid plaques to perform the stratification of affected patients and proceed to the correct prevention of complications. This work proposes applying an unsupervised learning approach to analyze complex whole-slide images (WSIs) of atherosclerotic carotid plaques to allow a simple and fast examination of their most relevant features.

The thinlip gray mullet (Chelon ramada) belongs to the Mugilidae family, it is a low-trophic, euryhaline species adapted to a wide range of environmental conditions. As such, it represent a candidate to diversify aquaculture production toward more sustainable species. Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the major causes of death worldwide, in particular because of the emergence of multidrug-resistant TB. Herein we explored the potential of an alternative class of molecules as anti-TB agents. Thus, a series of novel 3-substituted triazolophthalazines was quickly and easily prepared from commercial hydralazine hydrochloride as starting material and were further evaluated for their antimycobacterial activities and cytotoxicities.

Today, Light Sheet Fluorescence Microscopy (LSFM) makes it possible to image fluorescent samples through depths of several hundreds of microns. However, LSFM also suffers from scattering, absorption and optical aberrations. Spatial variations in the refractive index inside the samples cause major changes to the light path resulting in loss of signal and contrast in the deepest regions, thus impairing in-depth imaging capability.
