Is the subcutaneous route an alternative for administering ertapenem to older patients? PHACINERTA study.

Background: Antibiotic administration by subcutaneous (SC) injection is common practice in French geriatric wards as an alternative to the intravenous (IV) route, but few pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic data are available. Ertapenem is useful for the treatment of infections with ESBL-producing enterobacteria.

Objectives: To report and compare ertapenem pharmacokinetic data between IV and SC routes in older persons.

[Comparative study of needs of transplanted patients or those waiting for an organ transplantation and the nurses' attitudes of these needs].

Literature has shown that information, education and support had a beneficial effect on how the patients and their family lived through the transplant process. In our daily practice, we are permanently confronted with requests for information and psychological adjustments from our patients. Do the needs of this population meet the representations of the care-takers? Our theoretical framework is based on the theories of Maslow and Callista Roy, on the concept of social representations according to Moscovici and on the steps of the transplant process.

Peptide utilization by Lactococcus lactis and Leuconostoc mesenteroides.

To explain the competition for nitrogenous nutrients observed in mixed strain cultures of Lactococcus lactis and Leuconostoc mesenteroides, the utilization of peptides as a source of essential amino acids for growth in a chemically defined medium was compared in 12 strains of dairy origin. To explain the limited nutritional value of milk cultured with proteinase-positive (Prt+) strains of Lactococcus lactis for the subsequent growth of dairy lactococci, we investigated further the time courses of modifications in the free amino acid and peptide contents of cultured milk. When growing in milk for up to 24 h, Prt+ strains of Lc. lactis progressively accumulated amino acids and casein-derived peptides.
