Malnutrition frequently affects patients with alcoholic liver disease (ALD), with important impacts on disease prognosis. Sarcopenia, the clinical phenotype of malnutrition characterized by skeletal muscle loss, is the major component responsible for adverse events in this population. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is one of the most common gastrointestinal disorders in the world. Two parameters, mean nocturnal baseline impedance (MNBI) and post-reflux swallow-induced peristaltic wave index (PSPW), have been recently proposed to help differentiate GERD phenotypes.
