This study numerically investigates the impact of different loading modes on the biomechanical response of an osseointegrated dental implant. While finite element modeling is commonly employed to investigate the mechanical behavior of dental implants, several models lack physiological accuracy in their loading conditions, omitting occlusal contact points that influence stress distribution in periimplant bone. Using 3D finite element modeling and analysis, stress distributions at the bone-implant interface are evaluated under both physiological loading, incorporating natural occlusal contact points, and non-physiological loading conditions, with a focus on load transmission mechanisms and the potential risk of bone overloading.

Background: The success of using bone mineral density and/or FRAX to predict femoral osteoporotic fracture risk is modest since they do not account for mechanical determinants that affect bone fracture risk. Computed Tomography (CT)-based geometric, densitometric, and finite element-derived biomarkers have been developed and used as parameters for assessing fracture risk. However, to quantify these biomarkers, segmentation of CT data is needed.

Objectives: To establish the positive predictive values (PPV) of cfDNA testing based on data from a nationwide survey of independent clinical cytogenetics laboratories.

Methods: Prenatal diagnostic test results obtained by Italian laboratories between 2013 and March 2020 were compiled for women with positive non-invasive prenatal tests (NIPT), without an NIPT result, and cases where there was sex discordancy between the NIPT and ultrasound. PPV and other summary data were reviewed.

Metastatic lesions compromise the mechanical integrity of vertebrae, increasing the fracture risk. Screw fixation is usually performed to guarantee spinal stability and prevent dramatic fracture events. Accordingly, predicting the overall mechanical response in such conditions is critical to planning and optimizing surgical treatment.
