View Article and Find Full Text PDFLeupyrrins are highly potent antifungal agents. A structure-activity-relationship study of natural and synthetic derivatives is reported which reveals important insights into the biological relevance of several structural subunits leading to the discovery of highly potent but drastically simplified leupylogs that incorporate a stable and readily available aromatic side chain. For their synthesis a concise strategy is described that enables a short and versatile access.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe enantioselective total synthesis of (+)-salimabromide was accomplished by a concise two-step conversion of the fully functionalized dibromo-tetraline core, involving a one-pot Baeyer-Villiger/allylic oxidation by an innovative radical reagent combination. This route unequivocally resolves the stereochemistry and reveals the highly unusual, almost racemic nature of natural salimabromide.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the activity of cortisol-metabolizing enzymes in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), using a fully quantitative gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GCMS) method.
Design: We investigated the glucocorticoid degradation pathways that include 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (11β-HSD) type 1, 5α-reductase (5α-R) and 5β-reductase (5β-R), 3α-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, and 20α- and 20β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (20α-HSD and 20β-HSD, respectively) in young nonobese women with PCOS, using a fully quantitative GCMS method.
Setting: This study was conducted in a tertiary referral hospital in Israel.
Purpose: Despite the high frequency of use, data regarding the ocular in vivo pharmacokinetics (PK) of topically applied antibiotics are sparse. This study seeks to investigate the PK of the widely used fluoroquinolone ciprofloxacin by means of in vivo microdialysis.
Methods: Twelve New Zealand white rabbits were included in the experiments.
