[Neonatal morbidity and mortality in a low-resource urban district hospital of Douala, Cameroon].

Introduction: In countries with limited health-care resources, achieving the fourth Millennium Development Goal recommended by the WHO requires the reduction of neonatal mortality. Interventions at different levels of the community and the health-care system are needed, including in district hospitals.

Method: This was a descriptive study in the neonatal unit of the District Hospital of Bonassama/Douala in Cameroon that analyzed neonatal mortality and morbidity to discover possible intervention levers.

Vertical human immunodeficiency virus-1 infection: involvement of the central nervous system and treatment.

The clinical spectrum ranges from minor developmental disabilities to severe and progressive encephalopathy. Progression of the disease varies considerably.

[Prognosis in brain stem infarction].

Unlabelled: A retrospective study of patients who suffered cerebrovascular accidents (CVA particularly brainstem damage) was conducted to look for risk factors which, present on admission, indicated the chance of survival. The evolution of 100 patients, hospitalized in the Neurology Department, University Hospital Lausanne, after having had their first CVA was studied. The risk factors chosen were age, sex, hypertension, smoker, late onset diabetes, hypercholesterolemia as well as the conscious state, the location of the lesion and whether it was bi- or unilateral.
