Historical trend of ecological risk caused by copper sediment in Quintero Bay, Chile, associated with a copper smelter and refinery.

The Ventanas copper smelter began its activities in Quintero Bay in 1960, and it is estimated that it has released around 152 tons of copper per year into the waters of the bay since then. The increasing copper concentrations in the sediments exceed international standards and pose a potential danger for marine fauna. The object of this work carries out a present and historical ecological risk assessment of copper concentrations in the marine sediment of Quintero Bay.

Distribution of benthic macroinvertebrate communities in different kind of inland water bodies in northeastern Algeria.

Benthic macroinvertebrates are integral parts of inland waters, inhabiting a diversity of aquatic ecosystems where communities are spatially structured. Macroinvertebrates of some Mediterranean regions such as North Africa are still not well studied. Due this reason we proposed study the community structure in water bodies located in Northeastern Algeria.

Determinants of Modern Paediatric Healthcare Seeking in Rural Côte d'Ivoire.

To determine factors that influence healthcare seeking among children with fatal and non-fatal health problems. Last disease episodes of surviving children and fatal outcomes of children under 5 years of age were investigated by means of an adapted social autopsy questionnaire administered to main caregivers. Descriptive analysis and logistic models were employed to identify key determinants of modern healthcare use.

Microplastic concentration, distribution and dynamics along one of the largest Mediterranean-climate rivers: A whole watershed approach.

Microplastics (MPs) have been recognized as one of the most ubiquitous environmental pollutants globally. They have been found in all ecosystems studied to date, threatening biological diversity, ecosystem functioning and human health. The present study aimed to elucidate the environmental and anthropogenic drivers of MP dynamics in the whole catchment of the Biobío river, one of the largest rivers in South America.
